    Sports Recap: St. Francis softball starts 6-0, Blaine track and field thrives early

    St. Francis softball continued its fast start to the season, outslugging Robbinsdale Cooper 22-0 April 13 to improve to 6-0. The Saints got two hits apiece from Kara Schwintek, Alexa Skogquist, Addy Halland, Myana Kiser, Molly Hanson, Emerson Markas, Taleeya Draack and Sydney Borchert, with Schintek hitting a homer.

    Chloe Christie went 4-for-4 and scored three runs, while Pacey Olson had three hits and drove in five to power Coon Rapids to an 8-1 win over Elk River April 11 as the Cardinals improved to 2-1.

    Blaine rolled to a 13-2 win against Waconia April 15 to improve to 4-3. Jenna Jones went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Kayla Shaffer drove in three runs, and Bella Hunter, Marin Aman and Emmie Sylvia-Cochran drove in two runs apiece. Emily Vogel and Ada Busch each added two runs scored.

    Spring Lake Park outdueled Champlin Park 3-1 April 11 to improve to 3-1 on the season.

    Anoka earned a 10-1 win against Totino-Grace April 15 to improve to 4-3.

    Baseball

    Anoka scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to edge Andover 2-1 April 12, improving to 3-1 on the year. Parker Nedland earned the win with four scoreless innings of relief. Sam Poser had a hit, drew two walks and scored both of the Tornadoes’ runs.

    Solomon Kardell and Nathanael Niska both drove in three runs as Legacy Christian Academy rolled to a 23-4 win over Sciences and Agriculture April 15, improving to 2-1.

    Chase Patton and Tyler Lindstrom combined on a shutout as St. Francis cruised past North Branch 14-0 April 12, improving to 2-1. Nate Kuznia collected three hits, scored three times and knocked in four runs, and Noah Lamson drove in three and scored three times as well.

    Coon Rapids edged Elk River 4-3 April 11, and doubled up Buffalo 18-9 April 15 to improve to 2-1.

    Park Center/Columbia Heights/Maranatha topped St. Anthony 7-6 April 15 to move to 2-0.

    Spring Lake Park collected a 6-1 win against Champlin Park April 11, and has started the season 2-1.

    Track and field

    Coon Rapids hosted the Cardinal Invitational April 11, with Anoka and Blaine among the teams also competing.

    Event-winners for the Blaine boys were Devin Klark in the 100, Matthew Rivera in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, the 4x100 relay, Shiloh Ayitey in the high jump, Nshangji Zillang in the long jump, Justin Richard in the triple jump and Noah Tieden in the discus.

    Event-winners for the Anoka boys were Aaron Peterson in the 400, the 4x800 relay and Blake Sieben in the pole vault.

    Event-winners for the Coon Rapids boys were the 4x200 relay.

    Event-winners for the Blaine girls were Aliyah Adepoju in the 100, Alice Goya in the 400, Ajah Matchette in the 100 hurdles, Youkonjay Ferguson in the 300 hurdles, the 4x200 relay, the 4x800 relay, Miyah Gunter in the shot put and Ericka Miller in the discus.

    Event-winners for the Anoka girls were Ja’Mya Viney in the long jump, Mackenzie Rossum in the triple jump and Taylor Mjolhus in the pole vault.

    Event-winners for the Coon Rapids girls were the 4x100 relay.

    Girls lacrosse

    Andover opened its season with a 14-3 win against Coon Rapids April 15. Isabel Mika netted three goals for the Huskies, with two apiece by Merrill Delich and Maya Engler. Goalie Rachel Kroona had six saves.

    Anoka won its season opener 9-8 over Forest Lake April 11. Jayla Tonna led the way with five goals, and Kadence Jacobson scored twice. Jayden Schulz recorded 13 saves.

    Boys lacrosse

    Andover opened its season with a 9-3 win against Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids April 15. The Huskies picked up two goals apiece from Cole Jensen, Kaleb Weikel and Mason Miller, and 11 saves from Luke Babineau.

    Anoka started its season with an 11-7 win over Providence Academy April 13.

    Boys tennis

    Blaine rattled off three dominant wins April 13, shutting out Duluth East and Grand Rapids both 7-0, and toppling Forest Lake 6-1.

    Anoka edged Rogers 4-3 April 12.

    Girls golf

    Spring Lake Park notched an early-season victory, scoring 180 to top Armstrong by 23 strokes April 15. Grace Johnson was the low scorer for the Panthers with a 41.
