Popular Montana Trail Bridges Still Not Replaced 2 Years Later
Over the weekend my wife and I went for a hike up to Woodbine Falls near Nye, Montana. In order to reach the falls, you have to cross a small section of the creek by walking or climbing over a log. Why? Two years after the floods of 2022 the trail bridge is still out.

Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan has identified the hiker that fell into the East Rosebud Creek on July 12 as Dylan Honnoll of Minnesota. Dylan is believed to have suffered fatal injuries after falling into the rapids at the outlet of Rimrock Lake in the East Rosebud drainage. Dylan was attempting to cross the creek near the outlet of Rimrock Lake while hiking the well-known “Beaten Path” trail from East Rosebud Lake to Cooke City. He had just completed his sophomore year at Montana State University, was active in sports, and had spent a lifetime in the outdoors with his family and friends.

The search continues for a young Twin Cities man who fell into a fast-moving creek while hiking in south-central Montana 1½ weeks ago. Dylan Honnoll, a 2022 graduate of Rogers High School, was hiking on July 12 when he fell into the rapids of East Rosebud Creek at the outlet of Rimrock Lake and is "believed to have suffered fatal injuries," read a statement from the Carbon County Sheriff's Office.

***Updated note from Aaron: We want to stress that folks should extreme caution when attempting to cross waterways like this. While the water below Woodbine is very low now in late July, other waterways are not and present extreme danger. Also, our digital editor Jaci tells us that there is another location to cross that has multiple logs and brush and is much safer farther down the stream. (Also- it's been two years, why haven't these bridges been replaced yet?)

Nye Goes Nuts returns!
Once again it’s the time of year for Nye Goes Nuts!. The Nye Community Foundation fundraiser will take place on Saturday, July 13 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nye Fire Hall. Neighbors will come celebrate the community and have some Miller Beef Brisket, hamburger, hot dogs, sides by the Fishtail General store, watermelon while also taking in live music and much more.

This project was made possible through the Senator’s Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act. U.S. Senate — U.S. Senator Jon Tester celebrated the completion of the second phase of the Absaroka-Beartooth Gateway acquisition project by Custer Gallatin National Forest, in partnership with the Greater Yellowstone Coalition (GYC). This project was made possible by the Senator’s Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act, which permanently withdraws federal mineral rights on roughly 30,000 acres of the Gallatin National Forest and prevents proposed mines from expanding onto unclaimed public land adjacent to the Park, and funding came from his Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness granted permanent public lands protections
GARDINER, Mont. - Approximately 61 acres north of Cooke City have been acquired by the Custer Gallatin National Forest, the U.S. Forest Service announced Thursday. The change marks the completion of phase two of the Absaroka-Beartooth Gateway acquisition project. It's all part of a larger act, the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act, which eliminates federal mining rights and prevents proposed mines from moving onto unclaimed public land adjacent to Yellowstone.
