GVSU has zero margin for error after couple costly plays come up short vs Ferris State | D'Addona
ALLENDALE - Grand Valley State football coach Scott Wooster knows the margin for error is zero the rest of the season. It is that way every year in the GLIAC for a team aiming for title contention. After losing back-to-back weeks to Michigan Tech and No. 1 Ferris State, the No. 13 Lakers can't afford another loss this season if they want to make the playoffs. Three losses didn't get GVSU in last year and it likely won't this season after a 41-34 loss to the rival Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 17. That is the charm and the curse of the GLIAC and the Anchor Bone Classic. The losing team of the rivalry game has very little margin for error. With Ferris State winning multiple NCAA titles in the past five years, GVSU's reign over the GLIAC seems just a little bit further back in history, and it has been 20 years since the Lakers won an NCAA championship. More: No. 1 Ferris State football overcomes early deficit to beat No. 13 GVSU "Our whole mentality and what I have been trying to get out of this building is that light work can be (the difference) in college football," Wooster

Rams lose absolute heartbreaker to Hudsonville 17-14
The Rockford football team outplayed Hudsonville for nearly the entirety of the evening at Hudsonville on Friday, October 16. The Rams outgained the Eagles by 298 total yards to 133, while amassing 14 first downs and allowing only six. But in the end, it was Hudsonville (who came back from a 14-0 first quarter deficit) that emerged with the unlikely 17-14 win. A wheel route pass to the tail back from 33 yards out with only 2:13 to play gave Hudsonville the 17-14 lead and they survived a furious Rockford rally that saw them move the ball from their own 1-yard line to the Eagle nine with only four seconds to play. But a 26-yard Ram field goal attempt against a gale force wind ended up just wide to the left to give the home team the win.

No. 1 Ferris State football overcomes early deficit to beat No. 13 GVSU
ALLENDALE, Mich. - Tony Annese had a big smile as he was posing with the Anchor-Bone Trophy on the field after the game. The Ferris State University football coach and his Bulldogs rallied to beat rival Grand Valley State University 41-35 on Saturday afternoon at GVSU’s Lubbers Stadium. “It doesn’t mean as much about the trophy,” Annese said. “It’s about just surviving to advance in a GLIAC race that’s pretty tight. I’m very pleased. It shows how resilient we are and how much our guys believe in each other. To go down 17-0, a lot of teams would be shaken by that, but we just kept going.” Ferris State, the No. 1 team in the country in Division II, has won back-to-back national championships. The win helps them improve to 7-0. But it wasn’t easy. More: GVSU has zero margin for error after couple costly plays come up short vs Ferris State | D'Addona Ferris State coughed the ball up twice in the first quarter and GVSU (5-2) recovered both times.
