Chef Doug Paine finds food freedom at Burlington's new Harborvale hotel
Just like guests at The Harborvale, chef Doug Paine arrived after a journey. His took him through the restaurant industry, and the menu he’s made for the Burlington hotel reflects that. “It’s a bit of a retrospective of all the food I’ve cooked over the years,” said Paine, known to local diners for his 13 years at Juniper Bar & Restaurant. Juniper is in Hotel Vermont, just east on Cherry Street from The Harborvale. The latter lodging was most recently the Courtyard by Marriott Burlington Harbor, which, like Hotel Vermont, is run by Vermont-based Westport Hospitality . Now it's opened up with a new look, name and restaurant. Paine remains executive chef at Juniper but has turned the bulk of kitchen duties there over to chef de cuisine Tim Novine. Paine’s role in Juniper’s kitchen had shrunk as his executive duties piled up; The Harborvale lets him don the apron and get creative with food again. The story behind the stories: Join Free Press Selects and hear straight from us every Sunday with our editor's picks and insights into our work. Pasta, rotisserie chicken, grilled steak — and spinach bisque? That creativity is inspired by Paine’s history as a chef

Dunkin' to bring back 48-oz drink buckets and car cup holder solution
Need a tub of coffee to wake yourself up? Dunkin' is bringing back its 48-ounce iced beverage buckets this month, this time with cup holders for the car. The drink buckets – which come with a handle and a wider-than-average straw – can be filled with the customer's choice of iced coffee or a refresher. The tubs are 16 ounces larger than Dunkin's "large" cups, and hold about the same amount of liquid as a "large" and a "small" cup combined. Dunkin' tested the iced coffee buckets at select stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire earlier this year, and they quickly gained attention online as customers posted videos of them on Instagram and TikTok. The Canton-based coffee chain then officially launched the drink buckets nationwide just ahead of Memorial Day weekend, with just 25 available at each store. The oversized drinks, however, were a smidgen too large to fit into standard car cup holders. So Dunkin' had a solution: custom inserts designed to hold the buckets securely in a car's center console. "During the initial market test earlier this year, guests made one thing clear: they loved the buckets and wanted an easier way to bring them along for whatever
