DeKalb County Sheriff's Office announces missing juvenile has been located
DeKalb County Sheriff, Kasey Keesaman announced on Friday, February 23, 2024, that the missing juvenile, Trinity Hines has been located and returned to her family, unharmed. Sheriff Keesaman thanked the DeKalb County fire and EMS units, the Daviess County Sheriff Larry Adams, the Missouri Department of Corrections K-9 search team, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Cameron Police Department, and McBee Farms out of Gallatin, Missouri.
Girls basketball district play gets underway
The Girls Class 1 District 16 tournament tipped off at Stanberry High School on February 19, and three Nodaway County schools saw action. Northeast Nodaway started the evening with a match-up against Stanberry, beginning slowly against the Bulldogs, and trailing 16-25 at halftime. The third quarter was a much different story for the Lady Jays, as the outside shots began falling and Northeast Nodaway was able to take the lead back from Stanberry. Junior Hadley DeFreece came up big time, making three straight threes in the second half to give her team the lead. Northeast Nodaway would go on to win 51-47.
MIDC addresses housing issues for manufacturing firms’ personnel
Affordable housing has been a challenge for local industry’s employee recruitment for a long time. A recent housing study reinforced this fact that Nodaway County manufacturers had known for years. The information of the study was brought to the Maryville Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) leadership. They began to further investigate the type of housing, suitable location and the payment cost which manufacturers’ employees can afford. Then an action plan was developed.

102 Donations benefit Hopkins, Pickering area
A new philanthropic organization, 102 Donations, has been formed to benefit the North Nodaway school district area being Hopkins and Pickering. The organization currently has 28 members, both men and women, who make a minimum contribution of $25 per quarter. The group has made two presentations. Last quarter, the group gave $1,395 to the Hopkins Ball Association and on February 14 the members donated $1,415 to the Hopkins Fire Department.
