Sonora Man And Juvenile Accomplice Arrested For Armed Robbery
Sonora, CA – A Sonora man and his juvenile accomplice have been arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping. Sonora Police report that the crime took place on March 12th, but the pair was not handcuffed until April 6th. Investigators learned that 21-year-old Alexander Adrian Hernandez and his 16-year-old accomplice had driven the victim, whom they knew, to a local bank.

Local Educator Honored For Improving Student Attendance
Sonora, CA – The state’s top educator recognized the 2024 recipients of the Model School Attendance Review Board (SARBs), and one is from Tuolumne County. Rob Egger from the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Office, who has over three decades of experience in Tuolumne County as a teacher, lecturer, and administrator, was one of 23 across the state to get the award. All were praised by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond for voluntarily committing to serve as expert role models and support providers for other SARBs in school districts and counties seeking technical assistance throughout the state. This year, 23 school attendance review boards (SARBs) have been designated as model programs by the State SARB for exemplary practices that contribute to reducing chronic absenteeism rates and improving student attendance.

Man Arrested For Columbia Attempted Murder
Columbia, CA — An investigation is ongoing after a man was allegedly stabbed with a sword, or very long knife, on Gunsight Road in Columbia. A witness reported to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office that someone was stabbed with what appeared to be a sword on Monday morning during the 11 o’clock hour. Deputies arrived and provided medical aid to the victim, who was later flown to a trauma center out of the area. The suspect, 47-year-old Daniel Forgan, had already left the scene.

Angels Camp Police Officer Honored For Saving Lives
Angels Camp, CA – An Angels Camp police officer is being honored for de-escalating a “suicide by cop” situation where others were being threatened. Officer McDearmid received an Officer Commendation Tuesday night at the Angels Camp City Council meeting for her actions regarding a suicidal person. The incident occurred this January when Officer McDearmid was dispatched to a situation involving a suicidal person with a gun. Police report that the person said that he was “going to shoot his neighbors if officers didn’t shoot him first.” Officer McDearmid is praised for her ability to de-escalate the situation peacefully, and no one was harmed.
Sonora Pass Closed To Over-Snow Vehicle Use On Forest
Sonora, CA – No more snowmobiling or use of over-snow vehicles (OSV) on the Stanislaus National Forest along Highway 108 Sonora Pass, effective immediately. Forest officials advised that the main reason for the OSV highway closure is to protect aquatic and terrestrial species, road conditions, watersheds, and other similar areas. This is per the Stanislaus National Forest’s Over-Snow Vehicle Use Record of Decision signed July 13, 2021. The OSV Record of Decision closes every year on April 15th, unless the Forest Supervisor issues a Forest Order for an earlier or later closure date.
