(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A runner is critically injured after falling 80 feet down a steep rock bluff at North Cheyenne Cañon park.

CSFD said the person was running in the area when they fell, and they were able to call 911 for help. A drone unit had to be used to locate the runner, due to the hazardous terrain, and wildland crews had to cut through brush to get the person down to a trail.

ORIGINAL STORY: CSFD responding to high angle rescue at Cheyenne Cañon

THURSDAY 4/25/2024 3:40 p.m.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is responding to a person with “significant injuries” in rough terrain at North Cheyenne Cañon.

CSFD posted about the high angle rescue just after 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. CSFD said crews were with the person, though reaching them with emergency equipment was difficult due to rough terrain with “several access issues,” CSFD said.

CSFD said high angle and drone crews responded and were able to locate the person, and they are working to get the injured person down the trail. CSFD asks the community to avoid the area and allow crews to work.
