Viral motorcyclist sentenced Tuesday after 20-minute Colorado Springs to Denver ride

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The motorcyclist who recklessly drove at high speeds on Interstate 25, from Colorado Springs to Denver in just 20 minutes, was officially sentenced by a judge Tuesday.

Rendon Dietzmann, 32, pled guilty to speed exhibition earlier this month, according to a spokesperson from the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office. That’s after he drove from Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs to the Denver metro area at reported speeds of between 150 and 170 mph.

He recorded the ride and then posted it to a YouTube channel.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Dietzmann created a video of the ride that went viral in September 2023. Troopers say that he intended to brag about his excessive speed while completely disregarding the safety of himself and those around him.

The Colorado State Patrol -- in conjunction with the Dallas, Texas Police Department and the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for Dietzmann. He was arrested and extradited from Texas back in February.

According to the conditions of his plea agreement, he's required to pay a fine of $300 dollars and serve 14 days in jail, which he already did in connection with this case. He will also get 12 points taken from his driver’s license, essentially suspending his license for the next year in any state. revoking his privilege to drive in Colorado .

Lastly, Dietzmann must reimburse the state around $2,000 for the cost of his extradition and imprisonment.

Neither he, nor his attorney or prosecutors, were present for the morning hearing in a second-floor courtroom at the El Paso County Courthouse; County Judge Yolanda Fennick spoke with the parties on video.

During the brief proceeding, Dietzmann's attorney described the extradition process for his client as "dubious."
