(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — A motorcyclist from Colorado Springs was killed on Sunday, April 14 on I-25 near the El Paso/Pueblo county line, according to the Pueblo County Coroner.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), a motorcycle and a Dodge Ram 1500 towing a trailer were both heading southbound in the right lane on I-25 around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, just south of the El Paso/Pueblo County line, when the crash occurred. CSP said the motorcycle was approaching the truck at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle lost control.

The rider was thrown, and the motorcycle continued rolling in the lane, eventually hitting the back of the trailer the truck was towing. On impact, the trailer became disconnected from the truck, hit the back of the truck, then rolled onto its top and came to a stop in the left lane.

The truck was able to safely stop on the right shoulder. The motorcycle came to a rest in the right lane.

On Wednesday, April 17, the Pueblo County Coroner identified the motorcyclist as 61-year-old Felix Aaron Abeyta of Colorado Springs. Abeyta was taken to the hospital after the crash, where he was pronounced dead.

CSP said drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash, however speed is considered a factor.
