    Reckless Driver Nearly Injures Cyclist in Collier County DUI Chase

    Collier County, FL - A Collier County man faces DUI and reckless driving charges following a high-speed chase that reached speeds of 115 mph.

    Authorities say the incident began when a Collier County Sheriff's deputy spotted a white Nissan traveling at 75 mph in a 45 mph zone along Golden Gate Boulevard in Naples.

    The deputy initiated pursuit, but the driver of the Nissan, identified as 34-year-old Rubicel Ibanez-Batista, showed no intentions of stopping.

    Ibanez-Batista continued speeding, reaching speeds exceeding 110 mph and nearly striking a bicyclist who was forced to swerve onto the grassy shoulder to avoid a collision.

    Police say Ibanez-Batista refused to slow down for nearly three miles before finally coming to a stop in a driveway on DeSoto Boulevard.

    Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy noted Ibanez-Batista displayed signs of intoxication, including the strong odor of alcohol and bloodshot, watery eyes.

    A breathalyzer test confirmed the deputy’s suspicions, with results exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit.

    Ibanez-Batista was arrested on charges of DUI, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, and reckless driving.
