Shasta Regional Medical Center to offer mammograms, DEXA with AI tech
Shasta Regional Medical Center will begin offering mammogram and bone density scans using new state-of-the-art technology to find cancer, osteoporosis and other health problems. It’s faster and more accurate than other scanning technology on the market, according to Shasta Regional CEO Sam Itani. “This is the only system of its kind in Northern California," and it uses artificial intelligence technology to analyze and assist the doctors in reading scans, Itani said. According to medical manufacturer Siemens , its MAMMOMAT B.brilliant scanning device is also ergonomically designed to make getting a mammogram more comfortable. That's an issue with some people who avoid routine breast cancer screenings because they find them uncomfortable, said Dr. Ian Grady at North Valley Breast Clinic. The air transport company's agreement is with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association licensee Elevance, Julander said. Elevance's website says the business operates Blue Cross Blue Shield health plans across 14 U.S. states including California, primarily utilizing the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand name. While discontinuing its Red Bluff air ambulance, PHI will continue its operations at the Redding Regional Airport, said Julander. The shut down in Red Bluff marks the first time PHI's local business has closed a location because of insurance reimbursements, he said. The situation stems from a new federal law, the No Surprises Act, that went into effect in 2022 to protect patients from unexpected out-of-network medical bills for various services , including medical air transport costs. The law says air ambulance providers can no longer bill patients for the difference between what their
