Extreme heat and wildfire smoke today, cooler by the weekend
After heat index values soared into the 115 to 125 degree range across much of the region Sunday, it is going to be slightly cooler and less humid today. Just slightly. While heat index values will be a little less ridiculous this afternoon, they will still climb to between 100 and 105 degrees. While that is better than yesterday, it is still dangerous heat. Wildfire smoke will also bring some haze at times this afternoon. The heat and humidity stick around through much of the week, decreasing slightly each day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms by late week will lead us into a cooler, more comfortable weekend.
