At a brief annual meeting on Saturday before its latest gallery opening, the Waseca Art Center celebrated a year of “exponential” programming growth and added two new members to an already energetic Board of Directors. Art Center President Mikhail Rostislavovich hailed Director of Education and Programming Christy Easton, Executive Administrator Brad Donner and the Board of Directors, for going above and beyond to help to establish Waseca’s small Art Center as a regional leader. In the Beckmann Gallery, visitors can now check out the powerful, vivid and often surreal photography of Minneapolis-based artist Lauren Jacobson, who discovered a passion for long-exposure photography as a teenager and has turned it into an art form. The Harguth Gallery meanwhile features the works of Mark Braun, a Mankato-based illustrator who began his career as an illustrator in the advertising department of Kato Engineering all the way back in the 1970s and has been honing his skills ever since. Like many featured artists down at the Art Center, both Jacobson and Braun fully embraced art as both a hobby and a career. In “retirement,” Braun has produced hundreds of evocative illustrations, while art is at the center of Jacobson’s job as a Design Consultant and Art Framer. Using a single tactile flashlight as a primary light source, her body as a subject and carefully chosen backgrounds often found in her own home as well as tightly choreographed movement, Jacobson
