JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Wednesday, Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Errick Greene detailed what’s now in the works when it comes to vacant school properties. “We have invited you here to announce the launch of our comprehensive request for proposals process in the new re-purposing initiative webpage on our website,” Dr. Greene said.
First Alert Weather Day for Two Rounds of Storms
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Starting the week with a First Alert Weather Day for two rounds of storms in central MS. The first round is already moving through early this morning and will continue through the morning commute for some. This will pose a damaging wind threat along with some small hail and heavy downpours, so extra time will be needed for the morning commute. This will end by 9 or 10 AM, but another round will head this way in the early afternoon. Our First Alert Weather Day continues as more stormy weather ramps up for the evening commute. This will also bring a risk of damaging wind gusts and hail. A tornado cannot be ruled out, especially in areas south of I-20. There is also a risk of flash flooding with rainfall totals of up to 5 inches possible in some areas. We will be free from the threat of severe weather by around 10 tonight, and Tuesday will bare much calmer conditions.
Several events planned for this year's 601 JXN Day
JACKSON, Miss. — Visit Jackson is teasing ahead for a two-day celebration in the Capitol City. 601 JXN Day is set for June 1 and June 2. It’s a time for businesses in Jackson to showcase special events to bring the community together. Briarwood Art Center, Magnolia Sunset Markets, Hal and Mal's, and Off Beat are a few scheduled to host special events.

Family Campout to be held at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park
The Mississippi State Parks team is inviting families to join them for a fun-filled campout on Friday, May 17, 2024, at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park. Registration ended on Friday, May 10, 2024. Officials said four-person tents and sleeping pads, with additional tents available for larger families, will be provided.

JACKSON, Miss. — Jim Hill had a signing day event that will go down in history for the Tigers. Arian Taylor signed to Meridian CC for swimming. She is the first JPS student athlete to earn a scholarship for swimming. She is also the first black female swimmer to sign to the MCCC Eagles.
