Burning car snarls I-10 traffic in Tallahassee
A fully engulfed in flames White Ford Crown Victoria sedan is snarling traffic during the I-10 rush hour commute Thursday evening in Tallahassee. The incident briefly closed down westbound lanes, but there is still "heavy backup," according to Florida Highway Patrol corporal PJ Shaw. It snarled traffic from Exit 203 (SR-61/US-319/Thomasville Rd/Capital Cir) to mile marker 200. Currently, only the right lane is blocked. "They're cleaning it up now. Eastbound lanes are open, no injuries and the two guys in it were walking away from it," she said. As of 5:45 p.m., the Tallahassee Gridlock Guide shows traffic backed up for miles. New safety features are coming to Woodville in hopes of remedying a locally known dangerous intersection: Natural Bridge Road and Woodville Highway. Woodville neighbors joined Leon County Commission chair Christian Caban, who represents the area, alongside the Director of Transportation Development for the Florida Department of Transportation, Rodney Chamberlain, at the First Baptist Church of Woodville. That's where a new traffic light will go up. "This all started in 2022 while I was campaigning for county commission ... one issue that folks said really mattered to them the most was the safety about accidents and near misses at this intersection that we are at right now," said Caban. The danger of this intersection is well known among the community. According to Steve Lousberg, the owner of the Ace Hardware that sits on the intersection, ever since the store opened, the area has only gotten worse. "We opened the store in 1997, it was a dangerous intersection then ... and having been here the whole time I have seen far too many accidents that have taken place here," he said. It's been such a longstanding issue that many, such as Ben Watkins, avoid the intersection altogether. "I will go down to
