Watch: Controlled Demolition of Key Bridge Remains
BALTIMORE, MD - A controlled demolition took place Monday evening in an effort to remove a piece of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge from the cargo ship Dali. The largest remaining steel piece had been resting on the Dali for nearly two months. Now that the piece has been removed, work is expected to take place to refloat the vessel and remove it from the federal channel, according to Key Bridge Unified Command. The collapse of the Key Bridge in late March claimed the lives of six workers and has had major impacts on Maryland’s economy. The FBI has launched a criminal investigation into the vessel strike that brought the bridge down.
Vienna restauranteurs hope to create new neighborhood favorite in Bazin’s place
After a successful preview at last month’s Taste of Vienna, the men behind Evelyn Rose seem confident that their upcoming restaurant will prove worthy of its location. The brainchild of owner Sam Schnoebelen and chef Nick Palermo, Evelyn Rose is on track to open in late May at 111 Church Street NW, replacing Bazin’s on Church after the bistro ended an 18-year run on April 27.
Alexandria church faces expulsion from denomination over female pastors
First Baptist Church of Alexandria (2932 King Street) faces expulsion from the Southern Baptist denomination because of its female pastors. The Southern Baptist Convention only allows men to occupy the office of pastor/elder/overseer, but the Washington Times reported that Kim Eskridge has held the position of pastor at the church in Alexandria for nearly 20 years.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore bolstered Maryland's environmental priorities in a bevy of legislation signed into law which covered clean water and agriculture. In July 2023, Moore signed two executive orders, one establishing the Governor’s Council on the Chesapeake and Coastal Bays Watershed and the second establishing an Oyster Shell and Substrate Task Force. Citing recent research, he pledged to follow the science and apply full state efforts in restoration efforts. Moore also pledged that Maryland would be the first state in the region to adopt water quality recommendations.
