CLEVELAND (WJW) — A 17-year-old Cleveland Metropolitan School District student was shot on Tuesday afternoon near Glenville High School , authorities confirmed.

It happened outside J. Glen Smith Health Center, near the intersection of East 112th Street and St. Clair Avenue, said Cleveland police spokesperson Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz.

That’s just around the corner from the high school.

It happened at a bus stop, said district spokesperson Candice Grose. The teen boy was transported to a local hospital by EMS workers, Grose said.

The teen was conscious and breathing while en route to the hospital, but there’s been no update on his condition, said Diaz.

One suspect was detained in connection with the shooting, Grose said. The district’s Safety and Security Team, which was notified first of the shooting, is now trying to determine whether the suspect is also a Cleveland Metropolitan student.

No other injuries were reported. District officials are now working alongside Cleveland police as the investigation continues.

The motive for the shooting is unclear. Cleveland police are still reviewing video footage captured in the area and are looking to learn more from the victim, Diaz said.
