DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Cleveland man has been indicted in the Miami Valley on 20 felony counts.

According to the Springboro Police Department, Devon Lavelle Yancy, 40, of Cleveland, was indicted Monday by the Warren County grand jury on charges of burglary, attempted burglary, breaking and entering. The office of Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said Yancy has two counts of violating a protection order that were also included in the indictment.

Between July and October 2023, Yancy is accused of breaking into homes in Centerville, Dayton, Miamisburg, Miami Township, Springboro and Vandalia. During a number of the alleged burglaries, residents were inside sleeping. He is believed to have gotten into homes through unlocked doors and windows.

Police say after a Springboro detective spoke with the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit, they discovered similar incidents had reportedly occurred in nearby jurisdictions.

The Cleveland man remains behind bars and is awaiting trial, according to Springboro police.

No matter where you live, Springboro police encourages you to lock all of your doors and windows to stay safe. If you suspect concerning or suspicious activity, contact your local police department.
