CLEMSON — Clemson head baseball coach Erik Bakich gave the latest update on the return of outfielder Will Taylor.

Bakich says Taylor could return before the fourth-ranked Tigers play in an NCAA Regional at the end of the month. The junior has been wearing a cast to protect his left wrist after he had surgery on it last month.

“He either gets it off next week right before the regional or he gets it off right after the regional,” Bakich said following Clemson’s 10-0 win over Boston College on Saturday. “I’d say conservatively, he will be back and available to play after the regional. But it could be as aggressive as before, but it may not be in a role where he is taking full swings, but he could do something.

“I do not know. We will have to see when he gets his cast off and how much time he will need.”

Taylor injured his left wrist (glove hand) while making a diving attempt at a foul ball against NC State on April 14. Taylor broke a small bone in his left wrist and had a procedure done to fix it.

At the time of his injury, Taylor was starting to get back to the form that made him a highly regarded MLB prospect coming into the season. He had seven home runs and 19 RBIs before the injury.
