Huacuja wins county commission post
With the final round of votes counted for the May election, Anthony Huacuja has secured victory as Clatsop County District 2 commissioner. The official results show Huacuja defeating Tessa Scheller 1,149 to 1,126 — or 50% to 49% — with a difference of 23 votes.
County signs off on new budget
The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday adopted a county budget of $98.5 million for the next fiscal year, a 0.37% decrease from this fiscal year. According to the county’s budget message, most of the decrease is connected to materials and services, specifically, a decrease in contractual services associated with the distribution of federal American Rescue Plan Act funds. That decrease is offset by a slight increase in personnel services and transfers out.
Anyone who harvested, ate local shellfish asked to complete survey
State health officials are asking people who recently harvested or ate any shellfish from the Oregon coast to complete a survey as part of an investigation of illnesses linked to shellfish biotoxins. On May 28, Oregon Health Authority (OHA) urged people to throw out mussels gathered from beaches between Seal Rock State Park north to the Washington border after cases of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) were reported to the agency. The shellfish were harvested at beaches in Lincoln, Tillamook and Clatsop counties. ...

WASHINGTON — Paralytic shellfish poisoning found in shellfish along the Oregon Coast has been found along the Washington coast, state officials reported Wednesday. Last week, after at least 20 people became sick and high levels of paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) were found in mussels, razor clams and bay clams, Oregon officials closed the harvesting of mussels along the entire Oregon Coast and other shellfish for large stretches of the coastline.

Last week, six pugs were abandoned on rural roads across two counties. Five survived, and were taken to shelters in Clatsop and Columbia counties, but one was dead. The Pacific Pug Rescue will take in all five (four males, one female), and said on Facebook that “we believe all these pugs came from a breeder dump. All the pugs seem to have rear leg deformities (and) we can tell you this is going to be a very expensive endeavor ... ” possibly $10,000 each.
