CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., Mar. 25 (KNN) — A juvenile died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after entering the Industry Sheriff’s Station lobby and taking possession of a deputy’s gun Sunday night, according to authorities.
Deputies were alerted to a juvenile Hispanic female knocking at the front door around 7:40 p.m. of the Industry Sheriff’s Station in the 100 block of North Hudson Avenue. As deputies walked to the lobby door, the juvenile lunged into the lobby and reached for a deputy’s holstered firearm and took possession of it, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau.
A struggle then ensued between the deputies and juvenile who was armed with the deputy’s firearm. During the struggle, the juvenile suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, reported the LASD.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the juvenile deceased. No deputies were injured during the incident.
LASD Homicide detectives have learned so far that on Sunday, around 7:25 p.m., Industry Sheriff’s Station deputies received a family disturbance call for service in the 300 block of Clintwood Avenue in the city of La Puente.
“The juvenile’s foster parent reported that the juvenile was suffering from an apparent mental health crisis. Deputies responded to the scene; however, the juvenile had already left on foot before the deputies arrived. The juvenile’s destination was not known at the time of the call. No injuries were reported at that location. The distance between the location on Clintwood Avenue in the city of La Puente and Industry Sheriff’s Station is approximately one mile apart,” reported the LASD.
There is no additional update at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
