Charges upgraded to capital murder against Prichard man accused of killing ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A grand jury has upgraded charges against a Prichard teenager accused of killing a man last year to capital murder. LaCedrick Napoleon Davis, 19, made an initial appearance to the new charge on Thursday. Because he was younger than 21 at the time, he is eligible for consideration as a “youthful offender,” which would seal his court records and limit any potential punishment to three years in prison. A judge on Thursday set a hearing on that issue for June 27.

Trial in chlorine leak lawsuit filed by over 100 McIntosh residents delayed
A trial in a lawsuit filed by more than 100 residents of McIntosh against Olin Corporation, a chlorine manufacturer with a plant in the town, will be delayed until next year. “There’s wrongdoing going on, and it’s been going on, and we’re trying to stop it,” said Joseph “Mac” McCorquodale, an attorney with McCorquodale Law Firm in Jackson and one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs.
Saraland Athletic Trainer Awarded Statewide Award
Anna Szymanski, an athletic trainer with Infirmary Health’s sports medicine program who works with Saraland City Schools, was recently awarded the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association Life Saver Award for her role in an event at Saraland High School in 2023. The award, created in 2024, is given to an athletic trainer who has represented the profession well and used their training to provide lifesaving services or other humanitarian efforts. In November 2023, a parent at a Saraland High School basketball game was unconscious in the stands. Szymanski jumped into action and, along with other medical professionals in attendance, began rendering aid. Thanks to the group’s efforts, the unconscious parent regained consciousness and was transferred to the hospital. Saraland City Schools also recognized Szymanski for her service.
Several area school systems announce delayed starts on Friday due to weather
(WALA) - A number of area school systems have announced planned delayed starts on Friday due to the threat of severe weather along the Gulf Coast. Okaloosa County Schools - All North End Schools are canceled today due to the severe weather that came through Okaloosa County this morning which caused wide spread power outages as well as downed trees and power lines.The following schools will be closed today. Antioch Elementary School, Baker School, Bob Sikes Elementary School, Crestview High School, Davidson Middle School, Laurel Hill School, Northwood Elementary School, Richbourg School, Riverside Elementary School, Shoal River Middle School, Southside Primary School, Walker Elementary School: All Central and South Zone Schools will be open and start 3 hours later than their regular times. All school district maintenance crews, administrators, and power providers are working diligently to restore power throughout the county. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding.
