Area Man Charged with Murder in Shooting Death is Identified by Law Enforcement; Victim also Named
According to WDTV, the Elkins Police Department has released the identities of the suspect and victim involved in a fatal shooting in Elkins Monday. Phillips told police in an interview that he shot the victim, Mark Wirth, 67, because he threatened his life with a knife. However, later during the interview, Phillips told police he could not remember if Wirth was waving the knife around in an aggressive manner or if he had taken a step toward him or his girlfriend, according to court documents.
