Middle school roundup: Church Hill extends win streak to five

JONESBOROUGH — The Church Hill baseball team went into spring break on a five-game winning streak following a 28-8 drubbing of Jonesborough Middle School on Wednesday, March 13.

James Morgan drove in six runs on six hits, including a pair of doubles, to lead the Panthers, who racked up 26 hits. Graycen Feagins went 3 for 6 with four RBIs. Haiden Garst was 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Jackson Hall was 2 for 5 with four RBIs.

Hayden Grigsby was 2 for 4 and drove in three runs. Eli Bowery added three hits and drove in a run. Dane Blonski also had two hits for CHMS,

Starter Branson Cordell earned the win. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on four hits and five walks. Colton Huff pitched four innings in relief, allowing no runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Church Hill 11,

Central 1

CHURCH HILL — Church Hill scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back on its way to an 11-1 win over Sullivan Central on Monday, March 11.

Colton Huff was 2 for 2 with three runs and an RBI to lead the Panthers. Eli Bowery was also 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI. James Morgan, Kingston Manis, Graycen Feagins, Haiden Garst, Hayden Grigsby and Braydon Alexander each drove in a run for the Panthers.

Dane Blonski picked up the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one unearned run in four innings of work. He walked one and struck out three.

Church Hill 6, Central 0

CHURCH HILL — Church Hill scored in each of the first three innings to earn a 6-0 win on Monday, March 11, to sweep the conference doubleheader.

Eli Bowery went 2 for 2 with a run and two RBIs to lead the Panthers. Haiden Garst and James Morgan also drove in two runs each.

Carson Williams earned the win for Church Hill. The lefty allowed just two hits in five innings, walked one and struck out five.

Bulls Gap 8,

Fall Branch 7

BULLS GAP — Leland Blair drove in four runs on two hits to lead Bulls Gap to an 8-7 win over Fall Branch on Monday, March 11. Blair doubled in the first inning and hit a home run in the fourth.

Fall Branch picked up five runs on one hit in the top of the fifth, thanks in part to a series of walks. Blair started for Bulls Gap and gave up two runs on one hit, walked four and struck out five in two innings. Grayson Hughes and Liam Earle pitched in relief.

Bulls Gap racked up 12 hits in the game. Keegan Smith, Earle and Blair each had two hits. Gabe Chandler went 1 for 3 and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs. Parker Arnott, Keeton Riley, Colby Short, Porter Drinnon and Hughes each had one hit for Bulls Gap.

Gray 12, Bulls Gap 9

GRAY — Gray scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and beat Bulls Gap 12-9 on Tuesday, March 12.

Leland Blair went 4 for 5 with a double, a triple and a pair of singles to drive in three runs and lead the Bulldogs. Gabe Chandler was 1 for 2 and drove in two runs. Keeton Riley had two of the Bulldogs’ 11 hits. Keegan Smith, Grayson Hughes, Liam Earle and Colby Short each had a hit.

Boones Creek 19,

Bulls Gap 3

BOONES CREEK — Boones Creek scored 16 runs in the first inning to cruise past Bulls Gap 19-3 on Thursday, March 14.

Boones Creek did all the damage on six hits and 16 walks.

The Bulldogs scored all three of their runs with walks and stolen bases. Parker Arnott walked, stole three bases and scored. Grayson Hughes walked, stole three bases and scored. Keegan Smith walked, stole three bases and scored. Porter Drinnon also had two stolen bases.

RCS 9, Boones Creek 5

ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to beat Boones Creek 9-5 on Monday, March 11, in middle school baseball action.

RCS took the 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first, with singles by Conner Lyons, Cade Putnal and Cruz McBrayer. They tacked on a run in the third before Boones Creek came roaring back with a four-run fourth.

RCS rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Putnal went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs to lead RCS. Lyons also registered two hits and an RBI for RCS. Teegan LeRoy also doubled for the Warriors. McBrayer, Mac Phillips and Matt Kirkpatrick each had one hit for the Warriors. Mason McAnally, Lyons, Layton Ball and Zack Daniel each had two of the Warriors’ 12 walks in the game.

Lyons pitched four innings in relief for RCS to earn the win, allowing four runs on four hits while walking four and striking out five. Putnal got the start and gave up one run on no hits, with six walks and seven strikeouts in three innings of work.

Fall Branch 7, RCS 4

FALL BRANCH — The Cardinals picked up six hits and took advantage of three RCS errors to pick up a 7-4 win over the Warriors on Tuesday, March 12.

Cade Putnal was 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI for RCS. Mason McAnally was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Cruz McBrayer was 1 for 2.

Layton Ball and Landon Davis split pitching duties, each throwing two innings. Ball allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, walked two and struck out two. Davis came on in relief and allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

Church Hill 12,

Sulphur Springs 0

JONESBOROUGH — Church Hill scored 10 runs in the second inning to roll to a 12-0 softball victory over Sulphur Springs in tournament play on Saturday, March 16, at Lamar Elementary.

Madison Holder earned the win for the Lady Panthers. She allowed just two hits in three scoreless innings, walked no one and struck out seven. Holder also drove in two runs for CHMS.

Khloe Sanders went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Lady Panthers. Marlee Clark and Emilyn Roberts had one hit each for CHMS, which earned nine walks in the game and stole 17 bases.

Grandview 6,

Church Hill 0

JONESBOROUGH — Grandview took advantage of three Lady Panthers errors to collect a 6-0 win in tournament play on Saturday, March 16.

CHMS outhit Grandview 4-2, but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the mistakes. Grandview also stole 11 bases in the game.

Emilyn Roberts was 2 for 2 for CHMS. Emily Walker and Khloe Sanders each recorded a hit.

Walker started and took the loss in the circle. She gave up six runs (one earned) on two hits, walked two, hit one batter and struck out eight in five innings of work.

Surgoinsville 21, RMS 6

The Lady Eagles racked up 13 runs in the second inning and ran away with a 21-6 softball win over county rival RMS.

Surgoinsville had just four hits but took advantage of 23 walks.

Ava Worley was 2 for 2 with three RBIs in the game.

Ridgeview 16, RMS 0

GRAY — Ridgeview scored eight runs in each of the first two innings and held the Lady Warriors without a hit en route to a 16-0 win on Monday, March 11.

RMS gave up just six hits but walked 11 batters in the game.
