CHISHOLM—Ground was broken last week on a new addition to the St. Louis County Fairgrounds in Chisholm.

Fair Manager Karen McNeal said a new concession stand is being constructed to support the North St. Louis County 4-H program.

Nicole Kudrle, 4-H Extension Educator said the slab has been poured for the new 20 x 20 structure, being built were the large dining tent is normally located during the fair, near the exhibit building. And the hope is to have it completed on time for the fair in August.

If the structure is completed on time, the 4-H group plans to sell pre-packed items this first year, according to Kudrle.

“For 2025 it will be regular food concessions,” she said.

All proceeds raised at the concessions stand are going to help pay for 4-H activities, including scholarships to summer camps, leadership retreats, Minnesota State Fair and other events.

Kudrle said there are currently a dozen 4-H clubs that meet in the north half of the county.

“The fair is the big event to get them all together,” she said.

Some of the things 4-H kids are working on for this year’s fair include a dog show, a 4-H grill with Neighbors Barbecue, arts and crafts and more.

From January until about August 4-H work on dog training at Golden Paws Dog Training in Aurora.

“They do obedience, rally, showmanship, and if eligible, agility,” Kudrle explained.

The 4-H dog show is scheduled for noon Sunday, July 23, at the fairgrounds.

The barbecue event is scheduled for 4 p.m. July 31 and includes education on grilling and spending time preparing a main course.

“This year will be steak and a side dish, and they’ll get judged in front of a panel of judges,” Kudrle said.
