CHISHOLM—An evening of music and fun from a decade 70 years ago, is in store at the Vaughan-Steffensrud Elementary School in Chisholm.

The Sheila Kne Memorial Sock Hop 50s dance is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, in the Vaughan-Steffensrud gym. There is no admission charge. Donations, monetary or non-perishable food items, are being accepted at the door to benefit the Chisholm Food Shelf. A ticket is being given to each person making a donation for a chance at prize drawings. The Chisholm PTSA will have pizza available to purchase at the dance, and there will also be a Chisholm (Bluestreaks) gear fundraiser.

Participants are welcome to wear their 50s era attire, but it is optional.

Last year the dance was named in memory of Kne, a beloved school secretary who initiated the dance. In its more than a decade history, the dance has provided many fun memories while helping to feed people in need.

“It was a big thing for her, for sure,” said Chisholm PTA President Kimberly Kruchoski last week in a phone interview. “It was her I idea, so we thought it was a good way to honor her.”

For many years, Kne taught the kids 50s style dances on her lunchtime and led group dances during the sock hops. Dressed in a poodle skirt, with a smile on her face, Kne was a kid at heart out on the dance floor. In September 2022 Kne died after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 62.
