WASILLA, Alaska (KTUU) - A woman was struck and killed late Friday on the Alaska Railroad’s main line in Wasilla. According to railroad officials, the woman was lying on the railroad tracks near mile 157.8 of the rail network’s main line when the approaching 4,700-foot-long freight train struck and killed her.

Due To A Lack of Public Trust, Along With Local Opposition, Says Public Safety Commissioner. The State of Alaska is backing out of a plan to transfer basic policing authority over the community of Sutton from the Alaska State Troopers to Chickaloon's Tribal Police. The sudden change of plans was a major turnaround, and a response, said the Commissioner, to the fracturing of "public trust" in the Sutton area and overwhelming community kickback. James Cockrell, Alaska Department of Public Safety Commissioner, made the announcement of the change of direction on May 2nd, 2024. In a press release, the Troopers posted:

1 dead after Wasilla duplex catches fire
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - One person was found dead early Wednesday morning in Wasilla following a duplex structure fire, according to Matanuska-Susitna Borough officials. According to Ken Barkley, director of the borough’s emergency services, neighbors of the inflamed Melanie Avenue duplex called in the blaze around 6:20 a.m. During the initial call, Barkley said, it was believed that all occupants of the house had evacuated but Barkley said there were informed there might be another person inside the unit.
Wasilla law enforcement arrest eluding man wanted in Arkansas
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - An Anchorage man with ties to alleged Arkansas crimes was arrested by law enforcement on Thursday in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Troopers say the arrest of 37-year-old Latrael Hackathron — who had an extraditable warrant out for his arrest — came after a vehicle pursuit and foot chase near Colony High School in Palmer.
