Shelby County city weighs forming its own school system
One city in Shelby County is considering forming its own school system, following others in the county in the last decade. Residents and members of the Calera City Council will hear from educational consultant Ira Harvey Monday night about whether it’s “feasible” for the town to move to a city school system. Harvey’s presentation will be during the city council’s June 3rd meeting.

The Black Contractors Association of Alabama and others are suing the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Authority, claiming it did not follow inclusion policies established by the city and county when selecting the contractor for the project.
