A 19-year-old driver was injured after falling asleep at the wheel on Interstate 5 south of Chehalis early Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Ryan Joe Cortes was traveling south near mile marker 74 when he fell asleep at the wheel, woke up and overcorrected at about 1:45 a.m. The 2012 Honda Accord struck a Jersey barrier and came to rest on the right shoulder.

Ryan Joe Cortes was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to the state patrol, which listed the cause of the crash as driver fatigue. Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash. The driver was wearing a seat belt.

The vehicle was totaled.
