CHEBOYGAN — The Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education honored the latest round of students of the month as well as the varsity girls' bowling team during Monday’s meeting.

The first student honored was freshman Nolan Schley. Nominated by Zack Wright, Schley was described as a "strongly deserving student.”

“Nolan is a smart, respectful, trustworthy, consistent and hardworking student,” Wright wrote in his nomination letter.

A three-sport athlete — playing basketball, football and baseball — Wright wrote Schley “quietly leads by example and is always hard at work.”

Sophomore Presley Chamberlain was the second student recognized. Miranda MacLean nominated Chamberlain for the honor.

In the nomination letter, MacLean said Chamberlain’s work in the school’s yearbook class has been “invaluable” and said her caption writing is top-notch.

“This recognition is a testament of your outstanding contributions and dedication to both world history and yearbook classes,” MacLean wrote. “Your commitment to help fellow students in need does not go unnoticed.”

Jordan Yost nominated junior Lucas Sidlauskas as March student of the month.

During Monday’s meeting, Yost said Sidlauskas recently moved to the Cheboygan area, and instead of staying in the background while trying to acclimate to the new environment, he instead participates in class, asks questions and helps his classmates.

“The thing I love and appreciate about Lucas is his dedication to learning and his constant search for knowledge. I run my course in a project-based style so it's a little bit different, so students are put into different roles, face challenging perspectives and collaborate with each other daily," Yost said. "He has not shied away from this in the least and embraces this new style of learning. This showcases how much he values not only his education, but also those around him.”

Also nominated by Wright was senior student of the month, Jaxon Dann.

In his nomination letter, Wright described Dann as a student who “represents citizenship, achievement and leadership at Cheboygan High School.”

In addition to being a student-athlete, Dann is a member of DECA and the National Honor Society, and was a founding member of the Cheboygan Finance Club.

The Inverness Academy honored their own student of the month as well, celebrating sophomore Caitlynn Richendollar.

An online student, Richendollar was described as a self-motivated and responsible student with excellent grades.

“Caitlynn not only completes her classes with excellent grades, but often completes her courses ahead of time and begins work on next semester’s courses," Inverness Principal Kristine Jewell said. "Caitlynn is an intelligent, respectful, friendly and mature young lady.”

The board continued recognitions with a celebration for the girls' varsity bowling team.

Coach Brian Taylor said the team won the Northern Michigan Bowling Conference Championship for the seventh consecutive year. Two girls qualified for the All-Conference team as well.

“I think all six girls did a great job and represented Cheboygan Area Schools extremely well,” Taylor said.
