Chatham Milton Avenue School Kindergartners Plant a Kentucky Yellowwood Tree to Celebrate Arbor Day

CHATHAM, NJ -- Chatham Milton Avenue School kindergartners celebrated Arbor Day by helping plant a Kentucky Yellowwood tree in front of their school on Friday.

The plant was provided by the Chatham Borough Shade Tree Commission, headed by Colleen Truppo and transported to the school by Chatham arborist, George Sweetin .

Milton Avenue School Principal Kristen Crawford told the kindergartners that the tree belonged to them (see below).

Milton Avenue kindergartners took turns scooping dirt on the tree in front of their school (see below). Chatham Superintendent Michael LaSusa also took a turn at shoveling the dirt on the new tree.

Crawford capped off the event by reading a book: "Our Tree Named Steve" to the children.
