CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Three people have been arrested and an officer fatally shot a dog in an hours-long barricade situation Wednesday in west Charlotte, police said.

The ordeal began shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at a home located along Sharyn Drive. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers saw a man who was wanted on multiple felony warrants, including auto theft, outside his house.

The wanted man, identified as Kyle Kollermeier, 23, ran back inside his home once he saw police.

While CMPD officers knocked on the door and tried to speak with those inside the home, a dog who they said was being aggressive escaped from the home and charged at an officer.

CMPD said this officer tried to push the dog away multiple times before eventually shooting the dog. The animal died from its injuries at the scene.

Kollermeier continued to refuse to come out of the house. A warrant to enter the home was granted shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday.
