Fire destroys barn, artifacts at Steppingstone Museum
HAVRE DE GRACE — A historic barn used by Steppingstone Museum to display and to store its artifacts was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal. The loss of the barn is estimated at $200,000. However the loss of the historic pieces could not be estimated right away. Investigators have determined the fire began in the interior of the lower level. The cause remains under investigation. An employee of the museum, located at 461 Quaker Bottom Road in Havre de Grace, discovered the fire shortly before 1:30 p.m. and called 9-1-1, sending crews from Level Volunteer Fire Department and Susquehanna Hose Company to the scene. It took volunteers about an hour to get the blaze under control. The museum is located within Susquehanna State Park, which is owned and operated by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Man gets 13 years in prison for Charlestown home invasion
ELKTON — An Elkton-area man received a 13-year-prison term for his role in a home invasion at a Charlestown residence in August, according to Cecil County Circuit Court records.
