Tony Lotti resigns as Seckinger head football coach

After guiding the football program to new heights over his four-year tenure, Seckinger head coach Tony Lotti has resigned from the position. Lotti was hired at Seckinger ahead of the high school’s second football season in 2023. His revamped Jaguars went 1-9 this season after heavy graduation losses from a record-breaking 2025 team. This year's team had to replace 20 of 22 starters. “Coach Tony Lotti has made the decision to step down as head football coach at Seckinger High School,” Seckinger athletic director Kelli Poff and principal Jimmy Fisher announced in a joint statement. “We are grateful to Coach Lotti and his family for their dedication, commitment and investment in our school and football program over the past four seasons. We thank him for his leadership and service and wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors.” Seckinger went 6-5 in 2025 and reached the state playoffs for the first time in program history. New South Gwinnett High principal among several GCPS appointments

South Gwinnett High School has a new principal while the former deputy superintendent of Rome City Schools is coming to Gwinnett County Public Schools as Superintendent Alexandra Estrella's new chief of staff. The county's school board recently approved the appointment of Jeremy Foreman as the new principal at South Gwinnett while Barbara Patrick-Lashley will be Estrella's chief of staff. They are among six administrative appointments that the Gwinnett County board of Education approved earlier this month. The board also approved Jennifer Zavala as the new executive director of Multilingual Learners and Derrick Hardy as the new executive director of safe and supportive schools in the Superintendent’s Office. Two other appointments approved by the board recently are existing GCPS staff who are either getting their jobs on a permanent basis or are getting a promotion. Markita Spikes, who has been serving as the interim executive director of school operations and support, has been appointed to the position on a permanent basis. Meanwhile, Aimee Darwazeh, who currently serves as the director of instructional technology services, will become the new executive director of instructional technology and innovation. Wesleyan defense shines in big win over KIPP Atlanta in 5-AAA football

ATLANTA — Wesleyan’s defense put up another impressive performance in a big 14-7 win over KIPP Atlanta in Region 5-AAA football at Lakewood Stadium on Saturday. The Wolves (6-3, 4-2 region) pitched a shutout until KIPP (6-3, 4-2) scored in the game’s final two minutes. After that score, they recovered an onside kick and finished off a victory that sent them into a three-way tie for second in 5-AAA with Lovett and KIPP. Unbeaten Holy Innocents’ leads the region. Wesleyan went up 7-0 with 5:15 left in the first quarter after a long drive ended with Jameson Hilton’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Beck Baxley. The Wolves took advantage of a fumbled punt late in the second quarter for another score. Hilton capped the short possession with a 12-yard scoring pass to Hudson Barnett with 50 seconds left in the second quarter for a 14-0 halftime edge. The Wesleyan defense held on in the second half with stop after stop, including an end zone interception by Quin Brown with 7:10 left in the fourth quarter.

Florida vs Georgia football: High school record-holders meet in SEC rivalry

When Georgia and Florida face off in the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party on Saturday, the matchup will feature two Georgia high school football legends. Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton, a Rabun County graduate, holds the state's career passing touchdowns record with 177. Florida quarterback Aaron Philo, a Prince Avenue Christian graduate, owns the all-time passing yards record with 13,922. Philo was named the Gators starter Thursday, despite suffering a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter of Florida's loss to South Carolina. He missed the following week's game, when the Gators pulled off a 27-24 upset over Texas with Tramell Jones at signal-caller. Adding another layer to the matchup, the rivalry will take place in Georgia this year at Mercedes-Benz Stadium – the same place that Philo broke his state record. The game is traditionally played at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, but renovations have forced the rivalry to relocate until 2028. Although Philo and Stockton have shared the field three times since 2020, they have never faced each other directly.
