Police arrest two in theft turned motor vehicle crash
GRASONVILLE — Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff deputies arrested a man and woman suspected of stealing $5,000 worth of merchandise from a Walgreens, ending in the pair crashing the vehicle into the Waterman’s Monument and being apprehended. At approximately 5:01 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, deputies responded to the Walgreens located in the 1800 block of Chester for reports of a theft. While the purpose of the YMCA of the Chesapeake’s CEO Robbie Gill’s presentation to the Queen Anne’s County Council last night was to provide the exciting news that plans are moving forward with the installation of an outdoor pool for the new Centreville Y, perhaps the more remarkable news is that the new facility has grown from 2,400 to over 6,400 members after only being open since October of last year.
Pair arrested on charges stemming from theft, car crash
GRASONVILLE, Md. – Two people were arrested Wednesday evening on theft and other charges. Deputies were called to Walgreens at around 5 p.m. for a reported theft. Arriving officers saw a vehicle returning to the location with two people inside matching the suspect descriptions. The vehicle then allegedly fled the area at a high rate of speed, leading the deputy on a chase. The vehicle drove through the Route 18 drawbridge traffic arm and over the partially open bridge. Deputies on the other side of the bridge found the vehicle after it crashed into the Waterman’s Monument at the corner of Main Street and Kent Narrows Way S. Witnesses told police that the suspects ran behind Fisherman’s Inn Restaurant.
School system scales down its ask for county funding
ROCK HALL — After receiving updated funding figures from Superintendent Karen Couch, the Kent County Board of Education on May 6 approved the proposed fiscal year 2025 budget by a 3-1 vote. Ahead of World Bee Day on Monday, May 20, Washington College is buzzing with excitement about a unique and newly documented population of native bees on its campus. Although the large group of ground-nesting bees has been noticeable on one corner of campus for years, recent identification of at least five different species using the same area has sparked interest from researchers.

PASADENA — Junior RJ Ensor scored six goals and set up a seventh, and Riley Klepper added a hat trick Wednesday, leading Queen Anne’s County High’s girls lacrosse team to an 11-6 victory over No. 3 seed Chesapeake-Anne Arundel in a Class 2A state quarterfinal. Federalsburg Man Arrested Following Vehicle Pursuit
TALBOT COUNTY, MD - A Caroline County man was arrested following a vehicle pursuit through Dorchester County that resulted in a crash. The Talbot County Sheriff's Office reports that on Wednesday, May 15th, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Ocean Gateway in the Trappe area for moving violations. Deputies also say they received a license plate reader that showed the vehicle's registration was suspended.

New skatepark construction underway in Queen Anne's County
The Department of Parks and Recreation, alongside the County Commissioners, are excited to announce the construction of a new skatepark. The skatepark will be located in Stevensville on Cockey Lane behind Business Parkway and promises to be a dynamic addition to the recreational amenities of Queen Anne’s County. The Gunston School is proud to announce the induction of two remarkable athletes, Eleanora Keene ’11 and Olivia Keene ’13, into the Gunston Athletic Hall of Fame. Eleanora, a true sports star, distinguished herself in field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse during her time at Gunston. As a four-year letter winner and team captain in each sport, Eleanora demonstrated exceptional leadership and skill. In field hockey, she was part of the 2008 ESIAC Tournament Champions and earned multiple ESIAC All-Conference honors. In basketball, Eleanora’s achievements include the prestigious ESIAC Team Sportsmanship Award and the Gunston Defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) title. In lacrosse, her talent shone bright; she was named to the All-Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Association and All-Capital Area Lacrosse League and was honored as the CALL MVP. Eleanora continued her athletic journey at Guilford College, where she set numerous school records, including career ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers. She was named the Best Female Athlete at Guilford College in 2015.
BOE waives fund balance minimum
CENTREVILLE — Faced with budget challenges for this year and subsequent years, Queen Anne’s County Board of Education approved waiving the district’s fund balance minimum requirements in order to balance the current FY24 budget May 1.
