A Winlock man accused of raping a woman in Centralia in 2023 was arrested and released on $20,000 unsecured bail this week after he failed to show up to a preliminary hearing on May 14.

The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office filed one count of second-degree assault against Tyson Bonds, 18, on April 11 for allegedly raping a woman in her residence after she invited him in August 2023, according to court documents.

Initial DNA testing completed by the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab did not identify a suspect in the rape, but further testing reportedly showed Bonds’ DNA was present in the sexual assault kit submitted by the victim, according to court documents.

Judge J. Andrew Toynbee issued a $50,000 bench warrant for Bonds’ arrest after Bonds was not present at a May 14 preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court.

Court records show Bonds was arrested on that warrant on Sunday, May 19.

He had his preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, May 20, where defense attorney Rachael Tiller explained that the court’s summons notice had been sent to the wrong address.

Judge James Lawler subsequently allowed Bonds to be released from jail on $20,000 unsecured bail.

Arraignment was scheduled for Thursday, May 23.

A no contact order protecting the victim is in place.
