POTTSVILLE, PA – It was modified madness night at the Big Diamond Speedway on Friday night with Ryan Watt winning the makeup Thaw Brawl Quandel Concrete modified feature postponed from April 19th, in the regularly scheduled Quandel Concrete modified feature event it was Jeff Strunk returning to Big Diamond victory lane after a two-year absence. The Mid Atlantic EMod feature was dominated by Ray Kable. Also gracing victory lane on Friday night were Jax Yohn who made it two in a row in the USS Achey Crate 602 division and Alex Schoffstall who was the winner of the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners feature.
Controlled burn scheduled Saturday in Ralpho Township
Elysburg, Pa. — A shoulder restriction will be in place Saturday on Route 487 in Ralpho Township for a controlled burn. The Elysburg Fire Department will be performing the controlled burn May 4 at 372 Route 487, Elysburg, which is located to the east of the former Boyers Market. Drivers can expect the westbound shoulder to be restricted due to fire department equipment in the area. The controlled burn will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers should be alert, slow down, watch for slow or stopped vehicles, and drive with caution through the area.

Doctor, 70, admits to punching officer in the head during Capitol riot
WASHINGTON — A Massachusetts doctor pleaded guilty Tuesday to punching a police officer inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Dr. Jacquelyn Starer, 70, of Ashland, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of civil disorder and assaulting police and six other misdemeanor charges, including engaging in physical violence in a restricted building. According to a filing in February from her attorneys, Starer decided to plead guilty to all eight counts against her without the benefit of reaching a plea deal with the government.

Blaze damages Pa. winery housed in a former fire company
The investigation is continuing into what caused a fire inside the building that housed the Firehouse Winery in Shamokin, Northumberland County. Located in what was the former Liberty Hose Co. at 211 E. Sunbury St., the fire broke out during the afternoon of April 21 and drew emergency personnel from the Shamokin Fire Co., according to WNEP.
