Parents, staff, students brought these issues to Columbia school board listening session
At least a dozen parents, Columbia Public Schools faculty and students had an opportunity this week to give feedback to Columbia school board members. The listening session Thursday, held at the Battle High School media center, was the first of several allowing board members to get information on key issues facing all three groups. Topics ranged from safe gun storage education for parents, school safety and the newly adopted in-school safety and weapon detection systems, busing and special education students, instruction equity for students who are not disruptive, the recently adopted cell phone policy, facilities planning and the new proposed school boundary maps.
Students head back to the classroom for CPS summer school
More than 9,800 students headed back to school Thursday for their first day of Columbia Public Schools' summer school programs. A little more than half of the district's regular school year enrollment of 18,800 students is attending, according to a district news release. Last year, just more than 9,400 students enrolled in summer school programs.
