Snow falls in the Columbia River Gorge, causing school delays and closures
PORTLAND, Ore. — Snowfall in the Columbia River Gorge is impacting some schools and causing dangerous driving conditions on Interstate 84 Friday morning. Multiple school districts in the Gorge and in Clark County have either delayed their start times or have closed due to the winter weather. Among those districts, Hood River County and White Salmon school districts are closed.
The Dalles swim team grows in numbers
The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls 17-member swim team jumped into the Gorge Athletic Club pool in The Dalles for their first practice Nov. 13. The team, guided by Coach Shea Macnab and Assistant Coach Nate Timmons, opens its season Nov. 30 with a Special District 1 meet at Redmond, followed by a Dec. 2 relays event also in Redmond. The Riverhawks have a larger squad than last year when they had nine swimmers.
Woman Survives Fall on Mount Hood, Rescued After 10-Hour Operation
• A woman fell hundreds of feet while hiking on Mount Hood and was successfully rescued in a 10-hour operation. • The rescue involved the sheriff's offices from Clackamas and Hood River counties, as well as volunteer groups Hood River Crag Rats and Portland Mountain Rescue.

Gorge Composite Squadron gets new leadership
THE GORGE — This fall, the leadership of the Gorge Composite Squadron changed hands. On Sept. 19, Capt. Mo Donahue Revier stepped down after leading the squadron since June 2020, and 1st Lt. Katie Walker took command of the Gorge Composite. Then, on Oct. 3, C/Lt. Col. Isaac Walker, after more than two years of leadership, passed command of the cadets to C/2nd Lt. Zachary Luhan. Both Change of Command ceremonies took place at the Hood River Airport, where the squadron regularly meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.
