Sugar Creek stocked and ready; waterway set for next month’s start of trout season
Warm temperatures and a long-standing March tradition brought dozens of volunteers to Sugar Creek on Friday to help stock trout ahead of Pennsylvania’s opening day of trout season on April 4. More than 30 people gathered in Cooperstown as the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission delivered tanker trucks filled with brown, golden and rainbow trout, with volunteers forming bucket brigades to carry the fish to the creek at several stocking locations. Adults, children and first-time helpers joined seasoned volunteers in the effort, many saying the experience is just as rewarding as fishing itself. By early afternoon, the trout had been released along designated stretches of the creek, with several more Venango County locations still scheduled for stocking.
