BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — One local church is hosting a day of hope for everyone in the community and they are inviting everyone in need to come out.

The free event is taking place on May 25th at the Greater Grace Church in Center Point. There will be free food, food boxes, clothes, furniture and more. This is the second year of the event and last year they fed 1,000 people. This year, the goal is to feed 10,000.

CBS 42 spoke to pastor Lawrence Jackson of the Greater Grace Church Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s open to anybody who has a need and I often have events like this. Our mind is conditioned to think it’s for the homeless, or it’s for the people that are outside, and we do care about those and serve those in the community. But, there are people who are in homes that are struggling and there are people with jobs that are still struggling. And so whether you have a job or not , whether you have a home or not, we are not judging you, we are not policing. We just want you to come get the help,” Jackson said.

The “Day of Hope in Center Point,” will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. 100 volunteers are needed. For more information, contact Crystal Winston at 659-263-1899.
