Armed standoff in Jacksonville ends with suspect killed, six rescued
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County — On the early morning of Wednesday, June 5, 2024, officers from the Jacksonville Police Department rushed to 701 New River Dr., Jacksonville, following reports of a domestic disturbance and gunshots. Upon arrival, they encountered an armed individual who barricaded himself inside the house with six others. The department's tactical team and negotiators were called in to handle the situation. The six individuals were safely removed through a side window, but as they were being assisted, the male suspect emerged from the rear of the house with a firearm and began shooting. In response, officers fired back, resulting in the death of the suspect.
