Ghost of Dolly Parton spotted on second floor of Anderson Hall
At Whitman College’s Anderson Hall, the opening week frenzy seemed to be settling into a predictable routine. Following the legendary country singer Dolly Parton’s untimely demise, move-in took on a startling new challenge. Resident assistants began receiving complaints early the following morning of an overwhelming smell of southern comfort food drifting throughout the building. After students and faculty were unable to find the source of the mysterious smell, maintenance was called to ascertain the cause. The inspection was unsuccessful due to the maintenance workers abandoning their posts. When contacted for a comment on the walkout, one worker said simply, “It’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it.”

Boots in the Basin: Zine about it!
Pauline Schafer (she/her) A few years ago, while at a local coffee shop, I found a small envelope with a handwritten message on it: Free art. I opened it to find a tiny watercolor painting inside! It was clearly created with great thought and care, though it likely didn’t take much time to produce. I still treasure that artwork and have it hanging on my wall. It provides a brief glimpse into an artist’s work and continues to remind me of an unexpected delight, a connection to another human that I haven’t met but who gave me a gift.
