Rutland gears up for ‘road diet’ projects
RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) - After more than a decade of debate, Routes 4 and 7 in Rutland will see new traffic safety changes. “I’m thankful to be alive to be here,” said Don Parizo, recalling the day he was struck by a truck crossing Woodstock Avenue back in 2007. “I am a victim of that. So, I like the idea of this new road diet for the safety covered. It’s not a safe road. There’s no shoulder, walking isn’t convenient, bicycles are on the sidewalk.”
Logging company fined for wetland and water quality impacts in Bridgewater, Thetford
The Agency of Natural Resources Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) announced May 8 that Thomson Timber Harvesting and Trucking LLC (Thompson Timber), a company that performs logging activities in Vermont, was fined $32,550 for violating the Vermont Wetland Rules and failing to follow acceptable management practices (AMPs) for maintaining water quality on logging jobs in Vermont.
Rockingham special meeting will determine annual Town Meeting day

VERMONT (WRGB) — Benjamin Hubbard has been "located safe and sound," according to a release from Vermont State Police shared Sunday morning. Town resolves eminent domain
The town of Killington will not pursue an eminent domain hearing scheduled for May 20, having recently resolved the case with the landowner. Former corrections officer accused of smuggling tobacco into state prison, police say
RUTLAND, Vt. — A former corrections officer was charged on Friday after police said he helped smuggle contraband into a state prison. Vermont State Police charged 28-year-old David Orvis of Rutland with neglect of duty by a public officer for allegedly helping to smuggle tobacco into the Marble Valley Correctional Facility earlier this year.
