Colorado Springs swim instructors give tips for families to stay safe on water this summer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Summer break is just a few weeks away, and local swim instructors are giving tips for families to stay safe on the water. 11 News spoke with SafeSplash Swim School in northern Colorado Springs, who is currently in their busy season for lessons, as families prepare to head to the pool, beach or lake in just a few weeks. Kids can learn to swim as early as 6 months old, but SafeSplash’s biggest age group is between 3-12.
Colorado Springs police attempting to locate missing deaf teen
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is asking the community for assistance in locating a missing, at-risk teen. According to CSPD, 16-year-old Madelyn Garland is described as a white female, 5'1", 110 lbs. She was last seen at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind at 12:15 PM. Monday. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red, white, and blue tie-dye hoodie with the Colorado School for Deaf & Blind school logo on it.
Search underway for man who texted that he reached Longs Peak's summit
The National Park Service is searching for a 23-year-old man who texted a friend saying he climbed to the summit of Longs Peak and hasn't been heard from since. Lucas Macaj, from Colorado Springs, sent the text early Sunday afternoon and then stormy weather moved in. People became concerned for his safety Sunday night and the search began on Monday. Rangers from Rocky Mountain National Park determined that Macaj's car was still parked at the Longs Peak Trailhead on Monday. Heavy snow, difficult travel reported in high country
The National Weather Service reported late Sunday morning that snow is falling at the rate of two to three inches an hour in Park and Teller counties. NWS's Boulder office, in a social media post, advised against travel over central mountain highways.Both directions of State Highway 285 over Kenosha Pass were closed since 7:30 a.m. due to a stalled vehicle, according the Colorado Department of Transportation. Driver cited, motorcycle rider injured after crash at Highway 94 and Marksheffel
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A motorcycle rider is seriously injured after a crash with a sedan on the outskirts of Colorado Springs. Colorado State Patrol tells 11 News that the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Highway 94 and Marksheffel just before 11 a.m. on Sunday. Troopers initially told 11 News the motorcycle rider was able to get up and walk around, appearing to be fine.
