Consolidated Human Services Board to meet
— The Carteret County Consolidated Human Services Board will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 13 in the Health Department conference room in Morehead City. Agenda items include a public comment time, a presentation on the 2024-25 county budget requests for the health department and Department of Social Services, nomination and election of a board vice chair, an update on the Post-Overdose Response Team (PORT), and updates on the Community Health Needs Assessment. There will also be updates from Health Director Nina Oliver, DSS Director Jessica Adams and Consolidated Human Services Director Dr. Randall Williams.
County Senior Lifestyle Expo set for May 17
— In recognition of Older Americans Month, Carteret County Aging Services is hosting its 10th annual Senior Lifestyle Expo on Friday, May 17. Four Carteret County public school educators named Keenan Fellows
BEAUFORT — Four Carteret County Public School teachers have been named 2024-25 Kenan Fellows. They are among 38 educators statewide to receive the award, according to a press release from the school system.
Top school employees honored during awards celebration
NEWPORT — Known for being a servant educator, West Carteret High School math teacher Dena Bischoff received the coveted title of Carteret County Teacher of the Year for 2024-25. In addition to receiving accolades during a celebration held May 3 at Carolina Home and Garden for school employees of the year in five categories, she received the keys to a 2023 Chevy Blazer. She will be able to drive the vehicle for one year, courtesy of Kurtis Chevrolet.
Beaufort Elementary opens their outdoor learning center
