CARMEL, Ind. — What exactly would you do to heal yourself?

Meet Carmel’s Dr. Skye Winslow, who has survived an onslaught of illnesses. Winslow suffered from two brain tumors that then led to other health problems, including Cushing’s syndrome, high cortisol levels, 100-pound weight gain, and extreme dizziness.

On a quest to experience freedom in her own body, Dr. Winslow traveled around the United States, working to learn what she could do to heal herself from within.

“The motivation behind this was just trying not to burden my family. I didn’t want my kids to have to give me showers and take care of me. I didn’t want to burden my husband,” Dr. Winslow said.

With little help from doctors, she explored a series of careers to try to find the answers to her affliction. She became a personal trainer, a naturopathic doctor, a nutritionist, a certified hypnotherapist , studied to work as a chef, and even earned the college requirements to become a nurse. Despite the confusion about what to do next, she remained hopeful.

“I’m grateful I had a brain tumor. I mean, otherwise, I wouldn’t know. And maybe it would have gotten worse. Maybe the brain tumor was telling me to pay attention. I thank my body for telling me something was wrong,” said Dr. Winslow.

In February, Dr. Winslow opened a salt cave in Carmel to further her health. Carmel Salt Caves & Spa features an infrared sauna, foot detox, shopping, and two salt caves.

The salt caves has exactly 22 tons of salt from Pakistan that wraps the walls, floors, and ceilings. The halo therapeutic room features zero-gravity chairs, weighted blankets, and is set at a constant temperature of 72 degrees. The cave features healing properties, especially for people facing respiratory infirmities like COPD or even allergies. Moreover, it’s rejuvenating.

“It’s just a new experience. And even if you didn’t look at its health benefits, sitting quietly in a beautiful place for an hour is beneficial. Even if you don’t have respiratory issues, just sitting down and de-stressing, your life is worth something,” said Dr. Winslow.

In the future, Dr. Winslow wants to host guided meditation sessions to assist people facing various problems, such as smoking and food cravings.
