CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s (EMNRD) New Mexico State Parks Division has announced the presence of a fishing dock. It’s at Brantley Lake State Park.

About five years ago, officials said they closed a fishing dock that was unsafe. Now, they’ve welcomed a new one at the park.

“We are thrilled to once again offer anglers a safe and accessible platform to enjoy one of their favorite pastimes at Brantley Lake State Park. This project exemplifies the power of collaboration between public and private entities to enhance recreational opportunities for our communities,” stated New Mexico State Parks Director Toby Velasquez.

The nonprofit Great Outdoors Fund and Occidental helped fund, and put in, a walkway and dock at the Seven Rivers Boat Ramp.

Bison moved from Yellowstone to Taos Pueblo

“The Great Outdoors Fund is committed to promoting equitable access to our public lands and waters, ensuring that people of all ages and abilities can connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors, and it’s unique public-private partnerships like we’ve developed with Occidental that make that possible. Everyone from the local community to the people who visit the park will benefit,” said Great Outdoors Fund CEO-Founder Lori McCullough.

Authorities happily announced the dock is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Safety information is also near the ramp on a kiosk.
