Ollie's goat bridge
I have always said, “What is a zoo without a heart?” The heart is a vital organ that is responsible for all circulation of the body. Here at Chahinkapa, the heart absolutely is Grandpa's Petting Zoo! Grandpa's Petting Zoo began in 1983. Its founder, Bud Oliver saw a way to reach families with good sound fun which also served as a valuable educational outing. Miniature horses, donkeys, calves and goats are favorites of zoo visitors because of our rich farm region and of course the opportunity for "hands on." Through those early years, Bud made sure that the petting zoo hosted a variety of animals, had proper housing, fencing and a clean farm atmosphere. Bud personally funded these efforts and for that we are truly grateful. He also was on hand to train junior keepers to show our little visitors the proper way to feed. Bud wanted people to have an "ownership” and connection to the zoo by learning the animals' names and being able to groom and feed them.

And, when those state sites host an actual event, my advice would be to RUN, not walk out there.
