Speeding: A Leading Cause of Serious Crashes in Iowa
Speeding is a major factor in traffic crashes across Iowa. In fact, 52 percent of fatal and serious injury crashes in the state are speed related, and over the past five years, an average of 17 people died or were seriously injured each week because of excessive speeding. When drivers go too fast, they have less time to react to sudden changes on the road, like a car stopping short or a pedestrian crossing the street.
